Virgo Intacta is an electronica / IDM group formed in Izhevsk, Russian Federation in 1994, originally consisting of four members: Andrey Saltykov, Aleksey Maksimov, Sergey Sadykov and Vadim Shirobokov. In the beginning the musical direction for the band was intended to be ethno-ambient, though it has evolved considerably throughout the years. The first public appearance for VI was the sound design for Sergey Shumikhin’s “Preservative” exhibit. The first live appearance was on the 1st of April 1994 in the “U-Dance” club in Izhevsk. 1994 to 1997 is the period of VI’s experiments with ethnic sounds, their live performances being a mixture of shaman rituals with analogue/digital sound improvisations. 1997 to 2000 VI are performing IDM and dub-techno. 2000 sees the limited edition of Virtual Insects released on Planktone Records in Moscow. Since 2002 VI as a duet (A. Maksimov and S. Sadykov) are living and performing in St. Petersburg.
