Known for his work and composition in 'Redstains', guitarist Alexandre Santos started 'Scar for Life' in 2008 to make a new venture to see the light of day: melodic rock/ metal act Scar For Life. Creating songs from the most vitriolic, groovy assaults to soft acoustic pieces, this project seems to embrace all the influences that make it emotional and powerful. Always with a penchant for memorable hooks and vocal melodies. Alexandre Santos (compositions, guitar, bass) picked Marco Resende (NSPerfect) for singing duties, a soulful rock singer with a unique delivery and Daniel Cardoso as session drummer. Additionally, Dinho (New Mechanica) was invited for some of the more aggressive vocal parts. The debut SCAR FOR LIFE full-length release was scheduled for a June/July 2008 recorded at UltraSoundSystem studio facilities, with Daniel Cardoso as mixer and drummer (now in Anathema). With a colourful blend of acoustics and electrics, the tracks don’t shy away from lengthiness, taking time to progress and explore, like small, untimed voyages - Each track like a recollection of a sound memory. Ethereal, melancholy, deep and touching, composed in a varied and layered taste, yet always intertwined with a strong heavy riff drive - Hard indeed, but not to be scarred by this adventurous new project. The reception for the debut album was very positive, leading to the search of a live line-up. Scar For Life opened up for RAMP, was headlining multiple shows and did several acoustic showcases in stores around the country. An acoustic performance from one of these showcases is also available for sale iTunes Store and Amazon, called “Live & Acoustic”. IT ALL FADES AWAY was chosen as the name for the 2nd release and recorded in May 2010. Drums & vocals were again laid down at Ultra Sound Studios, while the guitars, bass and mix were recorded at Pressplay Music. The line-up for this album features Marco Resende (vocals), Alexandre Santos (guitars), Daniel Cardoso (session drums) and new bass-player Sales (ICON & THE BLACK ROSES). Additionally, several guests will appear, namely Tó Pica (R:A:M:P), Bruno A. (VERTIGO STEPS) and once again Sophie (UNDERSTREAM). The media reaction surpassed the previous album by considering IT ALL FADES AWAY Album Of The Year on Brazilian COLLECTOR'S ROOM webzine, and one top 10 Portuguese metal album of the year on several webzines. In 2011, the band decided to part ways with Marco Resende due to personal differences and Leonel Silva was chosen to join Scar For Life with his unique, powerful & versatile voice. 3 MINUTE SILENCE is the name of the 3rd album recorded in the beginning of 2012 at Pressplay Studio and released on the 10th of September via INFEKTION RECORDS. This new work features a new lineup and a handful of guests such as violinist Anne Vitorino d'Almeida, Finnish singer Kari Vähäkuopus (CATAMENIA) and British keyboardist Ged Ryland (ex-TEN) - The by far the most ambitious work to date, exploring an heavier & more melodic side of SCAR FOR LIFE. Drummer João Colaço (ex-MORE THAN A THOUSAND) stepped in while guitarist Sérgio Faria added new depth on live performances while recording a couple of memorable solos on the new album. A video was filmed in Canada by director & art director Dustin Warnock. 5 years into their career, SCAR FOR LIFE released a compilation titled RETROSPECTIVE in 2013 for free download on the official website featuring one new instrumental track (Retrospective), written and mixed by Alexandre Santos and recorded at Band House Studios in the UK by John O’Sullivan with Rómulo Herédia on drums and guest musicians Neil Fraser (TEN) and Neil Murray (WHITESNAKE, BLACK SABBATH, MICHAEL SCHENKER, BRIAN MAY /QUEEN) contributing to this theme.
