After parting ways with The Kooks in 2008 Max has been dividing his time between travel and writing. Using Cornwall as a base he has put together a storming three-piece rock outfit, with an album already recorded at Leaders Farm with Darkness guitarist and songwriter, Dan Hawkins. The Kooks formed in 2001 but Max explains “I wanted a different sound, and songs with some weight to them.” For Max, the moment is now “I love playing music and writing songs, I’d be as happy on bass as singing. I started singing so I could play acoustically on my own, and didn’t have to rely on anyone else. Now I’m with people I can rely on and so we can play as a band.” Mixed by Max Hayes (La Roux, Oasis, Primal Scream, Doves), ‘Just one life away’ makes for a spirited comeback and a great taster for things to come.
