International Youth Meeting Dachau

Август, Бавария, Дахау. Since its founding by young people in 1983, the International Youth Meeting has taken place each summer in Dachau, Germany. Young people meet at the site of the former Nazi concentration camp to learn about and discuss the history of Dachau, National Socialism, and modern problems of racism and discrimination. Through participating in workshops, participants seek answers to questions regarding the past, the present, and the future. The team members, most of whom are volunteers, supervise the youth and run the conference. Survivors of the National Socialists’ tyranny speak with the groups about their own experiences of persecution, imprisonment in forced labor and concentration camps, and in the resistance movement. In its first 15 years, the International Youth Meeting was held in an outdoor tent camp. Construction on the Dachau Youth Guest House was completed in 1998 and since then young people from around the world have gathered there each summer to take part in this international conference.
