APOCALYPTICA

Ejkka Toppinen, Max Lilja, Antero Manninen and Paavo Lotonen have got acquainted, studying as preliminary courses in Academy of music of a name J.Sibeliusa (Helsinki) on a violoncello class. To provide to itself a living wage, students earned additionally game in various orchestras, and also on funeral (here whence, probably, and name Apocalyptica has gone...) . At a leisure young talents instead of studying Bach partitas and Brams's sonata, were delayed under "heavy metal". In the summer of 1993 hot Finnish guys have gone to youth musical camp where were going to have a rest properly from intense works. On road the light thought has come to to them mind - to try to execute products of favourite group Metallica... On four violoncellos. No sooner said than done. In some days the quartet debuted on a collective-farm party, and, encouraged by success, has continued performances on student's parties in the come educational year. It is thought, wise teachers were not very happy with achievements of the pupils in a field "симфонизированного a trash". But young Finns already accepted the big success. After enchanting performance in the Helsinki club Teatro (December 1995) the group was called by representatives of record-company Zen Garden and have offered the contract on a recording of the album. So in 1996 on light there was a disk "Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos" in which sung Hetfildom and played by Hemmittom had been carefully translated on strunno-stringed "language" with use of various ricochets, flageolets, a staccato, пиццикато, games by click, a push, тычком, and also with a forcing, at колодки, behind a support and in general outside of all understanding. Sound possibilities of "apocalyptic" violoncellos were stretched from the most thin shades of a human voice (a lullaby in the beginning "Sanitarium") to fierce guitar фуза ("Enter Sandman"), the massiveness capable simply to knock down the listener. Parties of a vocal, solo and rhythm guitars, a bass and even shock - all was executed on four violoncellos, some of which, by the way, were tools antiquarian, almost that museum (it was especially specified in it in the booklet applied on a disk). Besides the mentioned compositions into an album have entered also "Master Of Puppets", "Harvester Of Sorrow", "The Unforgiven", "Sad But True" and other hits Metallica. After an exit of this CD the group has started to go on tour actively, has let out some singles. In the beginning of 1998 the second disk Apocalyptica - "Inquisition Symphony" in which, besides music Metallica, own compositions of Finns - "Harmageddon" have been presented arranged for a quartet of violoncellos of composition Sepultura, Pantera and Faith No More, and also, "Metal Boogie" and "Toreador" was issued.
