Wow. What a great release for the indie rock genre. Barcelona’s debut “Absolutes” will take you places emotionally physically (well not physically but it may feel like it). This album has indie rock elements, melancholy ambient instruments and a powerful vocal display. Opening the album with “Falling out of Trees” a great catchy indie rock pop tune catching my ears with hooks and melody. Following the opener comes two more catchy pop tunes “It’s About Time” and “Stars.” The album takes a turn in to the slower piano ambient side with the fourth track “Lesser Things” and “First Floor People.” Followed by the slower tune, track 5 is my personal favorite on the album. The song “Get Up, Get Up, Get Up” is like Sigur Ros meets Lovedrug. The very ambient piano is very reminiscent of Track 1 on Sigur Ros’ “( ).” A great mix to the album and a killer track. This song has all the emotion to be in a soundtrack to a movie. Very moving. The song starts very slow and ambient and picks up with Emily Greenwood taking over the vocals at the end of the song and bringing it into heaven, as I would call it. The album continues with two more upbeat rockers “Response” and “Colors.” The album has another slower tune with “You Will Pull Through” and a little more upbeat and glimmering “Numb.” The album comes to an end with the closer “Please Don’t Let Go.” This song is more an ambient song as well and a great closer to the mod of this album. Overall I would highly recommended buying this album when it comes out on September 25, 2007. This album takes you from the indie rock to the ambient delicate sounds of its genre. But you can get it pre-release from their online
