English: You are invited to take part in the most ambitious facebook experiment ever...picking up from where Steve Jackson left off... Using the Six Degrees of Separation theory, I want to see if it's possible to contact every single person on facebook. The theory states that everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. Using digital means--it should be possible to bring that number down even further! Thank you in advance! The Logic behind the theory: There are an estimated 6.667 Billion people who live on this planet. The Theory states that any 2 people can be directly connected to each other through no more then 6 people. It sounds crazy i know...But when you think about the number of people the average person comes in contact with in their lifetime-- it doesnt seem so strange. Personally I directly interact with roughly 300-350 new people per week (people i speak with for any length of time). I know I am prob. on the high end of the spectrum-- but look at how the numbers work. 150 (people)* 52 (weeks in a year)= 7,800 people a year Now...if 7,800 people each interact with 300 people a a week then you get 7,800 * 300 = 1,117,000 people a WEEK that these people meet so then when you see just THOSE 7,800 people a year... 300 * 52 = 15,600 people per year per person.. 15,600 * 7,800= 121,680,000 The numbers continue on this upward spiral and eventually you hit the magic number of 6.67 Billion people. Based on this logic-- the world is connected to each other through 6 people you have met sometime in your lie. The point of this "experiment" is to see how many people in the world we can get to sign up--this would give a large population of the world a "direct link" and work towards reducing the number from 6 degrees to 5 degrees....
