Somebody can say that idea of creating an Art Festival in a business school is like building a house on a river – it just doesn’t make any sense. And that might be true IF the only goal of the Art Festival is just another fun event. However the purpose of this Festival is a catalyst that will heighten the social awareness of KIMEP students to the needs of the world. It easy to be just wrapped up in our own lives – the type of cars of we drive, the brand of sunglasses we wear. And yet in the world there are far greater problems that the every 5 seconds somebody dies from starvation, every 5 minutes one child is born with the aids. How many people were killed in war, got addicted to drugs, or infected with cancer in the time it took to write this article? A familiar proverb says “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime”. The goal of the Art Festival is that KIMEP students would not only gain a better understanding of the needs of the world but that they themselves would become involved in meeting of those needs. OMNE DATUM OPTIMUM) The Art Festival is organized by KARANDASH (KIMEP Student Art Organization) with participation of KIMEP Student Organizations including: KELT (Kazakh-English Language Theatre), KFS (KIMEP Film Society), PAAP(Public Administration Absolute Power), SIFE The Art Festival is a social event in four days, and each day has a social theme. DAY 1 (Tues. Dec. 2 ): “Red Day” of Anti Aids; Student Art Exhibition Place: Fun Club (Student Center) Dates: Dec. 2 – 5, Time: 10 am – 6 pm KELT Performance: “Excerpt from Philadelphia” – a scene from the Tom Hanks movie in which Tom Hanks plays a man with AIDS. Place: the main entrance of the Valikh.bld. Time: 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00. Performed by KIMEP students. “Aids Awareness” – performed by a group of student from Tien Shan International School. Place: the New bld. "Black and Brown" Time: from 16:30 DAY 2 (Wed. Dec. 3 ): “White Day” of Struggle against Drugs Addictedness; KFS presents "Requiem for a Dream" Place: Great Hall Time: 19:00 KELT Performance: “Orphan Train” an original adaptation on the story of an orphan who finds hope. Place: The New bldg. "Black and Brown" Time: 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00. Written and Performed by KIMEP student and staff. “Living Dead” an original adaptation about the life of a drug addict. Place: The New bld. " Black and Brown" Time: 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30. Written and Performed by KIMEP students “Party’s Over” an screen play written by a KIMEP student. Place: The Main entrance of the Valikh. bld. Time: 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00. DAY 3 (Thurs. Dec. 4): “Yellow Day” of Struggle against Cancer and Starvation; The Monument Release.
