3rd Annual – Russian and International Student Education Network (R.I.S.E.N.) Event Date: Saturday, November 8th, 2008. Location: Mayakovskaya Library, Fontanka 46 (Through the courtyard to the left, and then upstairs) Metro Station: Gostiniy Dvor or Mayakovskaya Time: 17:00-19:00 (*Please NOTE time CHANGE*) The autumn weather turns colder and many of you are well into the semester of studies. Let me announce that the next meeting of R.I.S.E.N. will be held this coming Saturday November 8th. The last gathering hosted about 80 participants from almost 10 countries. We hope to continue to provide a place where students from different places, backgrounds and faculties can meet for conversation and socializing. As usual, there will be games, trivia questions and music as part of the event. And we will also introduce a Quest for those who prefer to deeply engage the topic. The objective of R.I.S.E.N. is to foster an environment where students from different universities and institutes can meet, learn about each others’ studies and experiences and practise English. With this goal in mind, our focus is on conversation, challenging topics and fellowship, with occasional guest speakers from the ex-pat and Russian local communities giving presentations. The theme for this Saturday's meeting will be ‘What difference does a decision make: You, Me and the World?’ It will partly touch on the importance of casting a ballot as a vote, with the recent American election in mind. On other topics, it will involve the notion of choice and consequence, freedom and constraints, opportunities and chances, making plans for the future, etc. The areas of Art, Music, Sports, Culture, Environment, Relationships, Science and Spirit will be helpful to make the theme accessible to everyone.
