A new trip for ENCC to Helsinki, Finland – October 21-22, 2008

Here I’m representing you the preliminary programme of our third trip to Helsinki on October 21-22. During the tour we do not only visit a foreign country, get acquainted with it and different places of interest there, BUT also SPEAK ENGLISH ALL THE TIME and meet people from LOCAL ENGLISH SPAEKING CLUB and SOCIEITES, and that gives a possibility of self-growth and development while practicing English. The first trip was very successful (read the report on http://encc.ru/our-trips/, the pictures are in http://vkontakte.ru/club786158) The next trip can take place in October 21-22. There will be Poetry & Jazz performance organized by Finn-Brit Players (http://www.finnbritplayers.com) which we can visit free of charge. So my suggestion is to make the trip as the following: We leave St. Petersburg at 5 p.m. on October 21, drive directly to Helsinki. At about 10 p.m. we should be there. Then we check in at the hotel and you can go to a pub/bar nearby if you want or have a rest at the hotel. On October 22 we can visit the National Museum of Finland and have a guided tour (in English of course) there. There will be an interesting exhibition “1809 – A Kingdom Divided and a New Beginning. The Bicentenary of the War of 1808-1809” - The exhibition will tell not only about the war in 1808-1809 between Sweden and Russia, but equally about the period preceding the war and immediately after it. It will focus also on the society before the war and the changes the war caused in Finland, as she became a part of the Russian Empire. Read more on http://www.nba.fi/en/nmf_temporaryexhibitions#war Then you have free time to walk around Helsinki etc. At 7 p.m. we meet at Aleksanderinkatu 26 - Cafe Engel where the Jazz&Poetry evening will take place. The performance will be held in the Piano Room of Café Engel. Music will be provided by Johanna Pitkänen on the piano. Directed by Joel Holmberg. Café Engel (Aleksanterinkatu 26) at 8 pm They would love to have us come to hear their performance. All pieces are original and are memorized by the author/actors. The musician also writes her own music - this year they say that they have a terrific pianist. After the performances and communication we leave for St . Petersburg and will come to Russia October 23 early in the morning. To make the trip real we need a group of 6 people. The preliminary price for group of 6 is 125 Euros per person.
