Gloomy bear...how cute! Designed intentionally to be the complete antithesis of the typically cute and fluffy toys produced by such companies as Disney and Sanrio (makers of Hello Kitty), Japanese Graphic Designer, Mori Chack, came up with this incredibly original and now massively popular toy, the Gloomy Bear. Mori Chack, born in Osaka, Japan, now well known for his Chax toy range, is of the belief that humans and animals are not quite designed to co-exist harmoniously together and he wanted to communicate this message in his toys. None of his toys express this message quite as graphically as the Gloomy bear, with its blood stained claws used to slash at its owner. Gloomy Bear According to Cube-Works, the toy company responsible for setting this toy loose on us, the story behind the gloomy bear goes something like this. Gloomy, a cute little abandoned bear cub is rescued and taken home by a little boy called Pity, who decides to raise him. "Things don't quite pan out as expected for poor little Pity, the owner of gloomy bear" As you can imagine, overtime things don't quite pan out as expected for Pity, who soon comes to realize the hard way that Gloomy, although cute and innocent as a cub, is in fact a wild and dangerous animal with a built in instinctive that Pity cannot control. And surprise surprise Gloomy rips the living daylights out of poor little Pity, even though he has rescued and raised him since he was a cub. Gloomy Bear Cartoon Mori Chack has been rolling out these Gloomy bears with great success for a few years now, and there is now an eclectic mix of gloomy bear variations for you to choose from. They range from the pre-killing machine, non bloodied, plush gloomy, which can stand and move its arms courteous of a flexible internal wire frame, to the full on bloody gloomy bear as pictured above. They come in a variety of colours, as well as some cool patterns such as the camouflaged gloomy version. The newest introduction to the collection is the Pandatone variety which has the typical markings of a Panda, and also comes in a variety of colour schemes.
