Afshin is no doubt one of the biggest Persian pop stars. His music is fresh and new, merging Persian lycris and musical traitions with Western pop in a style and quality that nobody else in the Persian scene has achieved. Afshin's musical production is of the biggest possible standard, comparable to the biggest US and European pop productions. Afshin was born on 6th of May 1987 in Babol, a town in nothern Iran. His family relocated to Tehran when he was 7 years-old. The 10 years-old Afshin started to play guitar and to write his own songs and lycris. In 1995, Afshin migrated with his family to Gemany to continue his musical career, since pop music was banned in Iran that time. The result was his first Cd titled 'Scent of rain' released in 1999 on the Iranian US Label 'Parsvideo'. His second album 'Star' was released in 2002, which was his first production with Kostas Karagiozidis. 'Star' was published by the big persian music label 'Taraneh Enterprises' (LA/USA). In 2004 'Aso Pas' (Dire Strait) was released and quickly became a major worldwide success for him.With this album Afshin found his very unique style.A mixture of pop, dance, HipHop and of course, Persian and oriental rhythms and melodies with German rap. Afshin's musicis not only about the big topic 'love'. because of his past he also sings about his homeland (Iran) and the politaical problems. 'Irane Man' is one of his favourites and it is a political song about the poor living conditions and the political situation in Iran, and about the people's readiness even to die for their country. AFSHIN - “MAACH” Taraneh Enterprises Inc. 2005 (1384) Lately there has been many rumours and indications about some artists considering a retirement from the industry! One of these artists who just happens to have released a brand new album is Afshin. In a BBC interview he implies that “MAACH” will in fact be his last album before settling down. The material on “MAACH” is the work of Afshin himself, Davood Basiri, Amir, Taraneh Mokarram, Nima Noormohammadi, Babak Roozbeh, DJ Amin Bamshad, Ashkan Rahimi, Izi K and Kostas Karagiozidis as the sole arranger. It features 10 tracks and is released on Taraneh Enterprises Inc.. The album seems to come in two different alternative covers! I myself own the initial BLUE one, but the more recent version portrays Afshin in a David Charvet-like pose as if auditioning for the next cast of BAYWATCH *LOL*! I have a feeling that this cover was meant to serve commercially as the “ladies’ alternative” cover! The album doesn’t waste time but starts off right away with one of its many experimentations to come! A short BEATBOX spitted intro a la ‘N SYNC’s “POP” leads into “Badjoori Aasheghet Shodam” a Persian DANCE HALL REGGAE tune with a LATIN undertone! A nice incorporation of Bob Marley’s “Could you be loved” and a great vocal performance by Afshin’s brother Amir, spicing up the song with COOL vocal details! Next comes “Man”, one of my personal favourites on the album! A smooth and mellow NRG BALLAD with clever incorporations of FRANCO-/LATINO DISCO-elements and ARABESQUE-influences. I LOVE IT! Simply flawless! “Dige Azat Badam Miaad” marries the POWER POP with the “Aso Pas” sound and a pinch of ELECTRO-FOLK! A FLOORFILLER that just cant fail! Afshin has a habit of re-introducing re-dressed versions of songs from his debut album every now and then! The turn has come to “Asali” which has been stripped down to a MINIMALISTIC dish and garnished with BHANGRA spices. Even though it sounds good, the original version managed to engage me slightly more!
