Nauryz Celebration at UCL

Nauryz (Nauryz Meyrami) is non-religious folk celebration of the vernal (spring) equinox in Kazakhstan and it symbolizes the renewal of the nature. Over the course of history Nauryz has been symbolic Kazakh New Year. During the Soviet period it was declared ideologically inconsistent and was "hushed–up". Nauryz had remarkable endurance and survival capacity through long and dramatic history of Kazakhstan untill it was formally reinstated as a public holiday in Kazakhstan in 1988. Nowadays it is one of the most favourite holidays in the country. Nauryz is also referred to as "Ulystin Uly Koony" by many Kazakhs, which means "the Great Day of the Nation". It is with great pleasure for UCL Kazakh Society to invite you for the celebration of Nauryz this year, which will take place in the Main quad of our University. Amongst the proposed activities are Traditional Kazakh music performed live by Kazakh students (only) for you and fabulous Kazakh food. Join the celebration and don't miss a tremendous chance to see and be a welcomed guest in a real Kazakh Yourt, the authentic traditional tent-styled house the nomads of the Central Asia used to live in. The celebration takes place on March 12, and will carry on the whole day. So come along to see our presentation, enjoy good food and listen to soul warming music.
