Russian and International Student Education Network (R.I.S.E.N.) Event Date: Saturday, February 9th, 2008. Location: Mayakovskaya Library, Fontanka 46 (Through the courtyard to the left, and then upstairs) Metro Station: Gostiniy Dvor or Mayakovskaya Time: 16:00-18:30 ~~ Dear Friends, This coming Saturday’s theme will be: “Higher Education: For the Science or the Art of Living?” It will provide an opportunity to discuss with students from different fields and backgrounds, what they are studying for and what they wish to discover or accomplish in their respective educational pathway. Previous R.I.S.E.N. themes include: “Dialogue of Civilizations and Cooperative Cross-Cultural Communication,” “Optimism: Russian and International Students in the 21st Century,” “Human Rights and the Human Family,” “The Bologna Process and the Future of Higher Education in the Russian Federation,” “War and Peace in the Global Village: Friendship in the University,” “Global Warming, Ecology, Creation and Evolution,” “Western Christmas and the Human Family,” “What is it about America?” and “What difference does Time make?” The objective of R.I.S.E.N. has been to foster an environment where students from different universities and institutes can meet, learn about each others’ studies and experiences and practise English or Russian language. With this goal in mind, our focus has been on conversation, trivia games, music, challenging topics and fellowship, with occasional guest speakers from the ex-pat and local communities giving presentations. Our goal is to enable Russian students and international students to meet and discuss themes close to the lives of young people in St. Petersburg and around the world, with a few prizes and awards for good answers.
