It's here again, the chance for fashion-savvy people to take a peek at the "in" fashions for the upcoming season. Seoul Fashion Week, the country's largest biannual fashion event, kicks off today and continues until Oct. 23 at SETEC and The Bailey House in Daechi-dong and Samsung-dong, respectively. The 2010 Spring/Summer fashion week newly features the Foreign Designer Fashion Show, where three of the world's most notable young designers - Phillip Lim, Damir Doma and Richard Nicoll - show their collections for the upcoming season. "Holding the Foreign Designer Fashion Show shows that Seoul Fashion Week has grown into a major fashion event in Asia," a fashion week official said. The event has so far been focusing more on introducing local designers' collections. Opening the fashion week will be Lim from New York, who is hailed as "the next Marc Jacobs" by U.S. media and the fashion industry. Lim's collection today will also feature some menswear and other pieces that were specially created for the Seoul Fashion Week. Lim has been loved by young women because of his classical and wearable designs that have edges at the same time. The designer, who says he aims to create simple and feminine items where each has a unique characteristic, is one of the few designers who has been commercially successful while being loved by critics. The Chinese-American designer who instantly became noticed in the industry through the debut collection of his brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim, in 2005, presented his first solo collection last year. Meanwhile, Lim is openening the first flagship store of 3.1 Phillip Lim in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul later today. The move was due to the brand's huge popularity here despite an absence of its official stores until now. Rising Croatian menswear designer Doma who is known for his skilled draping and detailed silhouettes, and British designer Nicoll who has previously collaborated with Topshop, will also show their collections respectively on Oct. 17 and 21 at SETEC. The list of participating local designers include Park Choon-moo, Han Song, Jee Chun-hee and Jang Kwang-hyo. The fashion week organizing committee aims to make the event more business-friendly, aiming to lead the collections to actual transactions between designers and buyers. The committee speculated that some 110 buyers and industry insiders from around 20 countries will attend the event. "We intend to make Seoul a 'fashion hub' through the fashion week. We are also planning to hold fashion shows in some of the world's famous fashion cities next year to bring more world attention to the event," the fashion week official said.
