Ahleuchatistas

Ahleuchatistas formed in the days leading up to the Iraq war. The TV played “Shock and Awe” while we worked out the first album, “On the Culture Industry”. The energy in the streets was high, but the swift repression of our collective “No!” redirected and channeled that energy into a music that refuses to cooperate. This is because before there was a band, there was an idea: Let us not offer, to those who would listen, a music that affirms the unacceptable here and now. In the West, glorious nihilism is an option at every turn. But, we face difficult times that must be overcome, so let’s challenge ourselves and face difficult music that must be overcome. Here is a point where art and morality meet. If we are to carry with us, as our name suggests, the synthesized spirit of Charlie Parker’s music and the continuing resistance of the EZLN, we must maintain this challenge to ourselves and to our listeners. With that in mind, we move forward, the seed reaching for the sun, the idea with a life of its own. There is beauty to be found in the margins, and unseen fallen through the cracks, and humanity can be heard in a fight song called “Ah Leu Cha”.
